Women have a large influence on the economy. We are major drivers of its growth and sustainability. “Companies that focus on women’s empowerment experience greater business success. Research shows investing in women and girls can lead to increases in productivity, organizational effectiveness, return on investment, and higher consumer satisfaction. A growing number of business leaders recognize the importance of women as leaders, consumers, entrepreneurs, workers, and caretakers. They are adapting their policies, programs, and initiatives to create environments where women and girls thrive.”—UN Global Compact

This belief led me to establish and lead the Network for Enterprising Women (NEW). Dannah Majarocon, Managing Director – LALAMOVE .Promoting a gender-responsive environment and marketplace supply is a byproduct of inclusive leadership that is purposeful, calculated, and constantly centered in communication and decision-making. It is not as simple as having an equitable distribution of genders in key management roles but also of ensuring that opportunities are equally created for all. This means having leaders take a more active role in preparing their teams for the future: encouraging a budding female engineer to be more assertive and vocal about her ideas, putting a young business analyst in a position where she can express her recommendations and strategies in management meetings, and most especially challenging them to push the boundaries of social norms to truly be able to create an environment of inclusivity.

Cathy Turvill, President – Nurture Wellness Village and Spa. With women comprising over 51% of our workforce and 90% of our managerial team, we continue with our advocacy to support women. Some challenges have emerged like husbands who became threatened by their wife’s success, but we are confident that our women will overcome these challenges because they are Nurture Women: smart, financially independent, professional, and self-reliant.

Chapter Lead Jeannie Javelosa, President, Great Women . This inclusion principle must be the foundational mindset in building this leadership perspective. Women must be represented in the supply chains with equal opportunity and supportive development for skills, financial and management acumen. And, the dignity and image of women in all marketing initiatives of the company must be respected. These strategies must all work together, and then communicated internally and externally, to help build gender-responsive marketplaces.
