Philippines SHE TRADES Workshop and Business Meetings

The International Trade Centre’s (ITC based in Geneva, Switzerland) SheTrades Initiative rallies key stakeholders, including governments, the private sector, financiers, business support organizations, international organizations, and others, to expand economic opportunities for women-led businesses. ITC SheTrades , Department of Trade and Industry -Export Management Bureau , Women’s Business Council Philippines (WomenbizPH) and Visa have joined forces to advance women’s economic empowerment across the Asia Pacific region.

The project “SheTrades : Asia Pacific” encompasses a multifaceted approach, including advocacy efforts to promote women’s participation in open digital economies, skills development in the area of entrepreneurship, tailored technical assistance in the Philippines, and virtual market and financial access support to selected women-led businesses.

In the Philippines, SheTrades aims to leverage existing collaboration frameworks under the SheTrades Hub in the Philippines hosted by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) with Women’s Business Council Philippines (WomenbizPH) as Project Lead to deliver a three-day workshop and business networking event for 100 Filipina women entrepreneurs aimed at improving their business competitiveness to better understand and benefit from trade and investment opportunities . The DTI report on the Gender and Development Agenda was the basis for the workshop.

The workshop and business networking event took place alongside the “National Exporters Week (NEW)”, the Department of Trade and Industry flagship event last December 4-6,2023 at Sheraton Manila, Newport City.

The 2023 theme is “Agile Philippines: Empowering Exporters towards Global Excellence”. ITC, WomenbizPH , DTI and Visa believes that the collaborative environment during this event put women at the forefront of this ambitious agenda and offer Filipina women entrepreneurs a unique platform to access key industry players and forge valuable connections that could significantly accelerate women’s business growth to be part of the agile export powerhouse.
